A new, small consulting firm after retirement. What’s its unique selling point? — Experience, expertise, insights, certainly. But it also needs imagery and language! That’s where the “Great Latinum” comes in:
Solo — everyone knows it; it means working alone.
Urbs—also known to (almost) everyone—as in the Pope’s Easter blessing in the dative, “urbi et orbi,” to the city and the whole world. And “urbis” is the genitive, meaning “alone (in) the city” or “to the city alone.”
That fits quite well, because SoloUrbis works primarily on, with and for cities. Of course, without neglecting the connection between city and countryside and their reciprocal relationships.
Solo – is also the ablative of solum – the ground, the earth and this ablative (the bane of all Latin students before they master the language) allows us to translate it as “on the ground.”
That fits even better, because: No city can exist without a conscious approach to its land, without a sustainable land policy; no construction is possible without land—but no land should be developed haphazardly; and finally: No development should take place without preserving, further developing, or even creating new open spaces, trees, urban agriculture, and urban nature – the Green and Blue Infrastructure.
